FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Melville, NY - December 10, 2002 - A. B. Computer Systems, Inc. has been selected by American Scholar to implement Microsoft® Business Solutions-Navision and to provide all related implementation, consulting and support services.
American Scholar is a New York based company established in 1964. The company's corporate offices are located in Bay Shore, New York, where it also has a manufacturing facility. Other manufacturing operations are located in Bombay (India), Penang (Malaysia), and Caracas (Venezuela).
American Scholar is one of the largest converters of paper products in both school supplies and home office products on the East Coast of the United States. The company's products are sold across the Continental United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
The main product lines consist of school and office supplies, such as marble composition books, filler paper, notebooks, index cards, legal pads, posterboards, correction products, art supplies, and the new "Little Scholar®" and "X-Treme" series.
The company's automated manufacturing facilities incorporate state-of-the-art ruling, printing, binding, and packaging machinery, assuring consistency of quality in every product it produces.
American Scholar needed an integrated Accounting, Distribution and Manufacturing system that was function-rich, fast, flexible, stable, and easy-to-use. The system had to support Integrated EDI, Advanced Inventory Management, and Import Purchasing functionality. The selection committee, after detailed review of systems from the major players in the mid-market, selected the Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision product. The committee foresees the following benefits to be generated by the Navision solution: increased employee productivity and efficiency, decreased operating costs, increased customer satisfaction, reduced paper flow, and increased profitability.
"We selected A. B. Computer Systems, Inc. (ABCSI) and Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision after looking at many possible solutions in the industry. ABCSI's extensive experience, professionalism, and flexibility played a big role in making our decision," said Dave Rao, executive vice president of American Scholar. "We are very excited about this new partnership with ABCSI. We hope that its extensive knowledge base and experience will prove fruitful in developing our customized container tracking solution and EDI capabilities in time for our busy back-to-school season."
The following Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision modules will be implemented on a Microsoft Windows 2000 based network: Sales Orders, Invoicing, Inventory, Bill of Materials, Purchase Orders, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Human Resources, Payroll, and General Ledger. An integrated EDI system will be implemented to allow for American Scholar to transmit Electronic Documents such as Purchase Orders and Invoices. This EDI functionality is now required by some of American Scholar's vendors such as the large Office Supply Chains, and is expected to improve order turnaround time, reduce manual entry of documents, and increase efficiency.
ABCSI will provide the software and all installation, setup, integration, training, consulting, project management, phone support, programming, and testing services. ABCSI will also design, program and test an Import Purchasing module that will allow for detailed tracking of shipments and containers.
